How do you get your Ezine 'Out There' on the internet?
How do you let future subscribers know about your
great ezine or list?
Here are some ideas that have worked for me.
If you have a website, make sure you put an online
version of your ezine on your site.
Once it's indexed by the search engines - you will get
a lot of visitors searching for your subject area.
Write each issue of your ezine with a few keywords
in each issue. Over time these pages will get your
ezine into all the search engines.
Remember, that's why it's a good idea to put your
site's main topic or keyword into the title of your ezine.
This will speed up the process.
People searching for 'NeedlePoint Patterns' are
likely to land on your site if you have 100 or 200
highly related linking pages pointing to the
keyword of 'needlepoint patterns'!
Keep a close eye on the search phrases people
are using to reach each issue of your ezine. Check
your web logs.
Sometimes, it's surprising what phrase will trigger
a search, but if it's something that's related to what
you're marketing or you can supply an affiliate
product for what they're searching for.
Go back and place this affiliate link on the page,
with a little write up or additional information.
For example, if the phrase 'sewing machines' triggers
in the search engines one of your ezine pages - see if
you can get an affiliate link or product dealing
with sewing machines.
If someone clicks on your affiliate link and
makes a purchase - you earn a small commission.
This is one way your ezine can bring in a little
income for years to come!

the Search Engines?

Another great technique that works best; write
well informative or entertaining articles
on your subject for your ezine.
Include a resource box or tag line at the end of
each article pointing to your site and ezine. Make

texts' and rate your site highly for your keyword(s).
Post your articles on your site and throughout

When you're ready, you MUST take your article/writing

your subscribers, visitors, etc.
Making your OWN viral products is also easier
than you think. You can purchase 'ebook' software
for under $30 and produce your own viral 'brandable'
articles, reports, ebooks, toolkits, etc.
This single one step can really put your name and
ezine 'Out There' on the internet.
The software I used for my simple ToolKit was
Activ eBook Compiler - it's real easy to use and has
the re-branding feature that really makes your
product viral.
It can also take any html site and turn it into a
'brandable viral product' within minutes!
It's Great for extending the reach of your site
and Great for creating links to get your rankings up.
But there are other options, many marketers recommend
that you use the pdf format for your viral products (it
can be used on all PC types). Check out how to make
pdf 'here.'
But you do have to be at the stage where you feel
comfortable at producing your own products. Bookmark
this idea in your mind! When you're ready, then and only
then, take the next step in your list building and
your marketing - go viral!
In the meanwhile, here's another great idea to get your
ezine 'out there'.
Do a search in Google and find popular sites related
to your site's topic. See if any of these sites will
put up co-registration pages on their subscription form.
Say a site on 'favorite indoor pastimes' would
include your subscription link on their site and
you return the favor.
Find a very popular site and your ezine will get noticed
very quickly.
Another old trick - run a contest (give away a free
prize) to those signing up to your ezine. This one has been
around for a long time because it still works.
Another trick that's as old as the internet!
Give testimonials for the ezines or products
that you really like. Of course, provide a link
back to your ezine with your 'keyword anchor text'
neatly tucked in place.
Don't forget the marketing forums! Posting to the marketing forums
regularly will bring in a lot of subscribers if you give good helpful
advice or information.

In this lesson, I would like to just cover the basics
of writing a well formatted ezine or e-mail. I am sure
we have all received a broken or uneven e-mail.
You, like me, have also probably written a few!
I thought I would pass this article along - it
might be helpful to review some of the points
of writing a 'good' e-mail.

10 STEPS To A Professional Looking Ezine

Checkpoints for producing quality e-mails
Your Ezine or opt-in Mailing List is the most important
part of your website - it can make or break your
marketing effects. It is your direct lifeline
or communication with your targeted market.
Don't mess it up!
Since it's so vital to your success - you should do
everything in your power to produce the most
professional ezine you can muster.
Here are 10 steps or guidelines that will greatly
improve the quality of your ezine or e-mails:
1. Composing - When composing use a text editor -
notepad or wordpad will do. On your computer go
into programs -- click accessories -- click on
notepad or wordpad. Make sure you use 65 characters
per line of text in all your e-mails. Also use a
hard carriage return - i.e. press 'enter' after each line.
Why? Because on your reader's e-mail client the
default is set at 65 characters and will open to this
width. By keeping your lines under 65 characters
and using a hard return you avoid having long run on
sentences. There's nothing more irritating or
unprofessional as e-mails that are broken or uneven.
2. Personalize - The most powerful word in any e-mail is
your own name! Always start the e-mail with your
subscriber's name - using 'dear friend' just doesn't
cut it. Use your reader's name in different sections
of the e-mail - just before you make your main
arguments or points.
Why? Because the whole purpose of your ezine or e-mail
is to build a one-to-one relationship with your
subscriber. Over time - this will build up a reciprocal
rapport with your reader - you want them to feel
comfortable contacting you.
3. Header - Place a Header at the top of your ezine. A
Header should consist of the Name of Ezine, who it's
written by, website url, the date and edition.
Why? - Because a Header will tell your subscriber
exactly who you are and the website you are representing.
Your reader will no doubt be subscribed to many ezines.
Identify yourself quickly and get down to business.
4. Table of Contents - Use a simple Table of Contents -
listing the articles and material in your ezine.
Why? Ask yourself - when was the last time you read a
magazine without a table of contents. Use the same
standard for your ezine - it will bring up the quality.
5. Grammar and Spell Check - The most beneficial thing you
can do to improve the quality of your ezine is check for
spelling and grammar mistakes. Proofread it or have a
friend proofread it for you. You might want to set up a
proofread system with an online contact - test and
proofread each other's e-mails before you send them out.
DO A SPELL CHECK with every e-mail. Online Spell Check

DO A GRAMMAR CHECK with every e-mail. Online Grammar Check
http://www.grammarstation.com
Why? Nothing will subtract from your product than poor
grammar and spelling mistakes - so you have to check and
recheck your work. It's common knowledge most people will
not buy from a site with grammar and spelling mistakes.
6. Spamcheck - You must check your e-mails to see if they
will be classified as SPAM. Too many characteristics of
spam (i.e. certain keywords, CAPITALIZED SENTENCES, etc.)
will get your e-mails filtered, put in the Junk Mail Folder
or simply deleted altogether. You need to Spamcheck your
e-mails.

Why? Because your ezine or e-mail will not even reach your
readers. Spam filters will filter it!
7. HTML - To Html or not to Html? Very tricky problem here -
while using Html can dramatically improve the professional
quality of an e-mail and allow for all the bells and
whistles of a webpage - many e-mail clients can't display
them properly or as you designed them. Also, it takes a lot
more time to design Html e-mails - text e-mails are much
faster to make. Please note many people consider text
e-mails to be more personal than html e-mails; similar to
comparing a handwritten letter to a typed one.
Solution? Do both if you have the time and ask your
subscribers if they want to receive Html e-mails. You can
also post your ezine on your website - in full html glory!
Then put a link to it in your ezine, it will give your
site stats a big boost.
8. Give a Famous Quote! - Include a Famous Quote or saying in
your ezine - this is not window dressing or filler. A good
quote can emphasize your ezine's theme or purpose. For
example, Paul Myers' Famous Wayne Gretzky 's quote:
"100% of the shots you don't take don't go in "
brings his ezine (Talkbiz News) up to a higher level. Of
course, being a top-notch writer also helps!
Why? Well chosen Quotes can lift the quality of your ezine
and express ideas or emotions where your own words would
fall short of the mark. Quotes can improve your changes of
connecting with your subscribers.
9. Be Yourself - Perhaps it does need repeating - Be Yourself.
The only true way to form a relationship with your
subscribers is to be yourself. Provide unique content. Be
direct, be honest, be sincere, be as helpful as you
possibly can be. Most of all - Don't pretend to be anyone
but yourself.
Why? Because over time your true nature will be revealed in
your writings. Our main objective here is building a long
lasting relationship. Show mutual respect and both parties
will benefit.
10. TEST TEST TEST - Always test your e-mails by sending them
to yourself first. Make sure you have an 'unsubscribe link'
in every e-mail - Don't take hostages. Use different e-mail
clients such as Yahoo, Hotmail and Outlook Express to double
check your e-mails.
Why? Because your opt-in list is the most valuable part of
your online endeavors. Show your subscribers respect by
producing the most professional ezine you can muster. Keep
this checklist handy and refer back to it when you write your
next ezine or e-mail.

In the last lesson we looked at a system or structure
for building a list or ezine. You need a Management
System, an Advertising Program and a Prospecting
Website.
Now your next step is to decide what type or kind
of list or ezine that you want to produce.
If you already have a website - your ezine will usually
cover the same topic as your site. You want targeted
readers - people who are interested in your topic or area
of interest.
This also deals with the issue of 'building creditability'
- if you have constructed a well designed content rich
2000 page site on say 'Needlepoint Patterns' - chances
are when you publish an ezine on this subject you'll
know what you're talking about.
An ezine will add to your creditability and pretty soon
people will be seeking you out as the 'expert' on
Needlepoint!
Or whatever the topic of your website or special
area of interest is.
One piece of advice - the internet is 'keyword driven'!
Put your main topic or subject area in the Title of
Your Ezine.
Now that you have the subject matter for your ezine
or list; your next step is to decide what type of ezine
you want to produce.
There is a whole range of styles or kinds of lists
from which to choose. Perhaps; it would help if you
really examined some ezines closely.
Don't know if it's my training as a teacher or an
artist which tells me you will only learn how to
produce a 'good' ezine by reading and studying
'actual' ezines or lists.
So let's look at some examples!
The following are my own personal reviews or
critiques of some well-known lists or ezines.
These reviews are based on my own opinions - they
come firsthand - from having been subscribed to
these lists for a while - most of them for years.
The first list or ezine I subscribed to was
'Robert Genn Twice Weekly Letter'. An Artist
Newsletter from well known artist Robert Genn.

His Newsletters usually consists of a two or three
paragraph email on the problems, issues, and concerns
of visual artists.
Over the years, having read his Newsletters each week,
I feel like I have gotten to know Robert Genn the
artist and Robert Genn the person. This weekly (email)
contact is directly responsible for this attitude.
This attitude wasn't formed overnight - it was very
gradual - it happened over a long period of time. So
prepare yourself for the long haul!
It takes time to build a good responsive list.
Still, list building is about making that connection,
building that relationship, getting to know the ezine
or list owner. More importantly, it's getting to trust
and value that owner's views and opinions.
And it's not one-sided; a really good responsive list
will be a two-way street, with plenty of feedback and
communication between you and your subscribers.
It does take some commitment. It does take some work.
But the rewards are worth it!
Over the years, I have subscribed to hundreds of ezines
and lists. Most of them are on 'internet marketing' and
'list building'.
Most lists/ezines can be broken down into two
groups - formal and informal.
Your list or ezine does not have to be a complicated
creature - some marketers just send out early notifications
of new marketing opportunities. Subscribers only
get one or two 'early notifications' each month of new
programs hitting the market.
This kind of list is about as simple as they come.
Just short emails introducing a new product or opportunity.
But don't let the simplicity fool you - these short
informal notice/type lists can be very lucrative
to say the least.
One such list is The Heavy Hitters Marketing Ezine
run by Ken Langille which has over 35,000 subscribers.
Ken is often called upon first by promoters trying to
get their message 'out there'.

Another excellent example is a daily tips newsletter
put out by David Vallieres. David is a very savvy marketer
and is a valuable source for new programs and new
marketing techniques.

Phil Wiley's Newsletter is also extremely good. Direct,
practical 'niche' marketing advice.

Still another ezine of this informal nature is TalkbizNews
run by Paul Myers. Although Paul's newsletter is slanted
more to the ezine format than a list format.
Regardless, it's one of the best ezines on the web
- in my opinion - Paul's ezine is approaching an art form!

No matter the format - you have to choose the
one that you're comfortable with producing.
Match it to your own personality, if you're
a friendly, out-going person - maybe an informal
style is right for you. Write your ezine as if
sitting down over a cup of coffee in your kitchen
chatting with a good friend.
If you're more on the conservative side - maybe a
more formal 'magazine' style would be better.
It really doesn't matter as long as you're giving
your subscribers good, quality information that
they can use. Write it as if you're giving a
presentation to your neighborhood group - with
the cameras rolling!
How often you publish to your list will also
depend on your ability and work schedule. Just
do what you feel comfortable with.
What day you sent your ezine will also depend
on your schedule. Tuesdays and Wednesday are
said to be the best days to publish but I
like Fridays the best.
But I have received ezines on all days of the
week so it's up to you when publish you ezine.
Actually, it's probably a better idea to survey
your subscribers and see when they want to
receive your ezine and how often.
Put your subscribers first.

This is the fourth lesson so it's time to get
down to the Nitty-Gritty! Get down to the
actual 'set-up' you need to have in
place if you want to build your list.
I am often asked by those trying to build a
list - 'but what do I need exactly to
build my list?'
'What kind of tools and what kind of system do I
need in order to build my list?'
Now you can dance around this question in
many different ways but it all boils down
to a simple system or structure.
In order to build your list you must have
some version of the following system.
*You MUST have 3 things in place or set up. They
are:
- a Management System
- a Prospecting Website
- an Advertising System
A management system to keep track of your subscribers,
send out your e-mails/ezine, and manage all your email
campaigns.
A prospecting website to capture your leads or
prospects. This can be a single page or a full blown
website.
An advertising system to advertise your lead capture
page or website.
In more detail - What you need:
First: A Management System (Auto-Responder)
We covered Autoresponders in the last lesson so you
should know how to set up your management system.
As you found out setting up your Autoresponder does
require some work! You have to put into place
a series of letters explaining how your system works.
These will automatically go out to your prospects
at pre-set intervals that you determine.
If your topic is list building; these letters should
contain useful information that is designed to help
your subscribers see the need for their own mailing
list and to explain how to start building their list.
Once this system is set up all you have to do is add
your leads.
No matter your subject or topic - it's best if you start
with an e-course or a series of letters on your
product or service. Just to break the ice and introduce
yourself and your site.
Remember; it's build your list, build your
relationships, build your wealth!
I am not going to go into all the details why
I suggest GetResponse AutoResponder for your
management system but all I can say it is the
simplest and easiest system I have found to
set up, and it also has all the bells and
whistles of more expensive management systems.

Word of advice - when you're just starting
out - a single autoresponder will do. But
as you become more experienced and involved
in your marketing.
You will need to 'move up' to a system that
gives you 'unlimited autoresponders' and much
more complex features. You will, no doubt,
have multi campaigns ongoing at the same time -
with 5 or 10 of these AR systems or series set up!
At that time or if you're at that stage now -
I would recommend you move up to a 'heavy duty'
e-mail management system.
Have a look at Corey Rudl's 'MyEmailManager' and
you will understand what I am saying and why this
program is already being called the 'Cadillac'
of e-mail managers! MyEmailManager
Next #2 - A Prospecting Website
You need a Prospecting Website to make first contact
with your prospects. If you have a successful website
with plenty of customers and traffic - then you already
have your prospecting website - it's only a matter
of putting a subscribe box on your site and
you will build your list.
If you don't have a website - it's a little harder - but
you can still build a contact list. You can always
use an affiliate site as your prospecting site.
Many of these give you the 'email contact' information
of your sub-affiliates.(Those who sign up from your
affiliate page.)
But you do need some kind of a prospecting website.
What kind will depend on your own level or the stage
of marketing you're at - I use a simple lead generating
page on my website offering to teach or show people:

You can use any type of webpage as your prospecting Site.
Just construct a lead capturing page offering a high
quality e-course or autoresponder series as your prospecting

ClickBank is an affiliate system that sells downloadable
information products, ebooks, software, etc.

last year - may not work today. For that matter
what worked last week - may not work today.
The 'Key' I believe to succeeding in your advertising
programs is to look at where most of the website traffic
comes from.
The Search Engines.
That's why I always recommend people just starting out
or beginning their business to build a good fundation
- build a site that's content rich and optimized for
the search engines.
Then you will have Targeted Visitors and Customers
to build your list.

Leads or buying leads have become very popular.
It is an option that should always be considered
- it can save you a lot of time in the long run
and also kick - start your own opt-in list.
Any marketing on the internet must have fresh leads
or it's dead in the water. It might sound like a cliche
but that doesn't make it any less true! Without a steady
stream of interested prospects you won't get far - no
matter how good the opportunity.
Depending on your own circumstances - buying leads
is an option you should check out.
Internet marketers buy the right to contact these people
who have opted-in. Don't get the wrong impression - these
are not harvested names - taken illegally by software/robots
roaming the net.
They are legit!
But the Big Issue here is Spam. You have to be very careful
in using co-registration services. Like anything on the
net - some are very reputable; others less so.
If you do use these kinds of services - make sure you have an
'unsubscribe' link in every e-mail; offer some valuable information
and don't mail these contacts too often!!
If you're interested in using this kind of service to kick-start
your 'opt-in list' or ezine; there is one site run by

Pay Per Click
PPC programs are another great way to get targeted
visitors and prospects. You bid on certain keywords
in these programs like overture and adwords.

Hello once again!
Today's lesson is on Autoresponders - your most
important List Building Tool - so listen up!
What is an Auto-Responder?
An AutoResponder is basically the e-mail version
of a fax on demand that will automatically store
the person's information and send a series of
messages that are stored in the system. These
letters can be set to go out at whatever intervals
you select. Everyday or whenever.
Your AR system will supply you with opt-in FORMS
for your site and landing pages. You get the html
code or javascript which you then insert into your
webpages, wherever you want to place your forms.
When you or someone sends an email to your
autoresponder address or you enter a name into
the system (your subscribe box) 3 things will happen.
* Your first message will be sent
* You will receive a notice that some one sent a
message to your autoresponder
* The person's name and email address are captured
and added to your web based Opt-in list which is
part of your autoresponder system.
Once it is set-up; all you have to do is add names
and e-mail addresses and load it with 6 or 7 letters
in your system, then you will be able to concentrate on
building your list. Just be sure and subscribe yourself
so you can see how your letters will look when they
are sent.
The AutoResponder is the MOST important tool in
building your list.
It keeps your product, service or program in front
of the prospect so they won't forget you!
It provides your prospects with more information -
studies have shown that people don't buy on the
first contact. You have to build up trust with
your prospect and then they are more willing to
consider your offer/product/program.
The fact that they have asked for 'more information'
means they are good targeted leads - they are
interested in finding out more - and they will
probably buy when the time is right.
Your AutoResponder(s) does all this for
you automatically.
Because it's so important you need to have a
good reliable AutoResponder system. Here's

been around for awhile.

I'm going to show you how to set up your system
using Simon Grabowski's GetResponse.com - the
first one on the list. Of all the AR systems
out there - this one is the oldest and still the best.
The e-mail you're reading now came from GetResponse
- I have been using this system for quite some
time and highly recommend it.
It is easy to use and FREE. Just use this page as a
general guideline if you choose one of the other
systems listed above - their set-ups are similar
to GetResponse.
OK, click on this link to go to the
GetResponse home page: Get Response
Take some time to look around and read through
the GetResponse site and learn about their
system, or take the five minute tour. Then,
click the button at the top of the home
page that says "Sign Up For Free".
(You can always upgrade to pro later if
you like the system - this will give you
a more professional image i.e. no ads!)
On the next page, fill in your information.
Please Note the "SmartResponder Name" is the
name you will be advertising (you@GetResponse.com)
so choose something that tells your customer
about you or your product.
Then click "Submit".
If you get a page that says your name already
exists. Just modify or change the name of your AR
until you get a name that isn't already in use.
(There are over 300,000 users of this system!)
Once you have your name, submit it and you will
get the screen that says "Your Autoresponder is
almost created!" Go down to the bottom of the page
and click the "Click For SmartResponder FREE"
button.
"Congratulations!" page will appear. You might
want to take some time to read the GetResponse
tutorials - you will see how powerful this system
really is - you can sign up for unlimited
free ARs through GetResponse, something to keep
in mind for your future email campaigns!
Now go get your sign-up info from the e-mail you
received from GetResponse. Click the login link
and enter your username & password. You will be
taken to your control panel. Click on Messages,
then on Edit Messages. You are now at the heart
and soul of your new AR.
What Do I Load Into My Autoresponder?
That's entirely up to you! It all depends on what
your goals are? Are you trying to sell a product?
Are you trying to build a list? Are you trying
to promote your website?
Autoresponders are a great 'means' of introducing
yourself or product to future clients. They are
perfect for 'breaking the ice' and making 'first
contact'.
They can be your first step in building a relationship
with your subscribers.
With that in mind, it's good to load your AR with
some free e-courses related to your site or business.
If your site is about rabbits - offer a free 7 day
ecourse on how to properly take care of a pet rabbit.
You can earn a little extra by recommending different
products, ebooks, etc. on rabbit care!
If you're trying to build a list - you might want to
try the AR series in my free Tool@Kit - just place in
your own information and programs - then upload them
to your autoresponder.
'How to Build Your List' is often rated by marketers
as their #1 problem. So you will have a ready market
with lots of prospects seeking your advice and guidance.

Now You're Ready to Load Your AR!
With your own AR series that you have written or
Ones from the Tool@Kit.
Here's a simple walk-thru if you need it. Most
of it's very straight forward.
Now go back to the Tool@Kit and click on the
'Welcome' letter from this series - Open it in
Notepad or wordpad (Your text editor.)
Copy the entire text down to, and including,
the signature. Now paste that into your new
text file. You now have a copy of the first
e-mail in this series. (You will eventually do
this with all the rest of them or the ones you
choose).
On your new notepad document, go to "File then
Save As..." at the top. Click and save the file
giving it a name that is appropriate, such as
"Autoresponder (backbone)". Save it where you
know you'll find it again.
Then go back through your newly saved file and
change as many of the links as you can to your
own. Any of the affiliate programs, software
or ebooks that you decided to sell need to be
placed in here, replacing my links.
Click Save - so you don't lose your changes.
What you should have now is an exact copy of
the e-mail, except all the links in it are to
YOUR sales sites! You are now well on your way
to building your list.
As a courtesy, the only thing I ask, if you
don't become an affiliate for one of the
linked programs, please leave that link as
it is. Thank You. Make sure you keep this note
in the e-mail too, that way those signing
under you will know that they should give
you the same courtesy!
Make your list building 'viral'.
On to the last step.
Copy your newly created file. Click on
"Edit than Select All" to highlight everything;
then click "Edit and Copy". Now go back to your
Autoresponder and place your cursor in the
large textbox labeled "Body". Right click
and hit "Paste" to paste your copy into this
box. In the textbox above that, labeled
"Subject" type in:
[*[FIRSTNAME]*], How to Build Your Opt-in List#1
This will tell your AR to personalize every
message with your prospect's name. Now click
"Save".
PLEASE NOTE:
The asterisks "*" were placed here in this copy
so the code is not a merged name. When you place
it in your AR remove these asterisks. Get more
on how this works by reading "Personalizing
Your Messages".
Do the same for any of these e-mails that you use.
Save it as a text file, change any links you need
to change, add your own signature, and copy it to
your next textbox at your AutoResponder. The Interval
box should already be set to "1" or "2" which means it
will go out one or two days after your first message.
Once you have all your letters or e-mails placed
in your AutoResponder - you have your automatic
system set up. Now, you have to start directing
traffic and visitors to your AutoResponder address
to get them started on the same process.
